私達ディベートセクションは準備時間15-30分で即興ディベートを行っています。週の練習では試合やレクチャー会をします。固有の魅力は主に3つあります。第一に競技性とアカデミックの融合です。議論の質に基づき勝敗がつき、大会では賞がもらえます! 第二に知性の向上です。知識をインプットするので気づいたら意識高い系になってます笑。最後に優秀な同期です。GLP/SSPで留学を目指す人やGPAが4.1の人などがいます.(最高4.3)きつくなることもありますが同期、先輩に支えてもらえる最強の場所です

Our debate section does impromptu debates with 15-30 minutes of preparation time. Randomly assigned to either Government/Affirmative and Opposition/Negative side, you will argue for about 7 minutes for a specific motion. Contrary to common misconception, debates are not all about refutations. Debates are, in our definition, about coming to a compromise and understanding each other, so don’t be afraid. Weekly practice consists mainly of matches and lecture sessions. There are three unique features of the debate section. The first is the combination of competitiveness and academics. When you participate in a tournament, you will discuss a wide variety of issues, including economics and the criminal justice system. Moreover, you will be judged based on the quality of your arguments, and you can receive prizes! So far, we have earned hundreds of prizes for debaters and judges. Secondly, it is an intellectual challenge. The motions are so diverse that you have to learn lots of things in order to win and soon enough, you find yourself becoming an ”intellectual person" lol.. For instance, there is a genre of motions called “love motions”, where you talk about romantic relationships i.e is love conditional. On the other hand, you also encounter “social movement motions” like feminist movement , lgbtq movement, and environmental movement i.e should environmental movement take radical actions? Lastly but not least, you will be surrounded by great peers. GLP/SSP students who are aiming to study abroad and a person who has a GPA of 4.1 (the highest is 4.3). Some seniors start internships or business ventures in their early sophomore year. It is a stimulating environment! Due to the competitiveness of debates, It can be tough at times, but surrounded by peers who are supportive of you, it is the best place to be in!
